In-Building Cellular Coverage Solution

IRCONA have developed a product family which provides a paradigm shift in the implementation of coverage solutions for cellular telephony within medium and large buildings. Welcome to the world of ClearCone Technology.

ClearCone Technology enables a new form of Distributed Antenna System which is totally integrated within the standard IT infrastructure of the building.  Using patented technology, IRCONA have produced a solution which converts the RF output of any base station to Ethernet packets which are distributed within the LAN to antennas, located strategically around the building, where the RF signal is reconstructed and radiated to the cellular phone.

The use of a digital transport medium means that the cellular network is both easy to design and install and easy to extend, both within the building and between buildings in a campus environment.  As Ethernet is used as the transport mechanism, the complete in-building  network can be monitored and managed in the same way as any other area of the LAN


 

 
 

ClearCone Product Set
The product set consists of three main elements which are outlined below

Base Station Interface (BSI)
This element takes, as input, the RF output of the Cellular Base station via a standard Coax cable and converts it to a digital stream.  This stream is arranged into Ethernet packets and output through a standard RJ-45 connector into the LAN infrastructure of the building.

For installations where the Base station is not located within the building being covered, a version of the BSI is available with an optical fibre interface. 

Remote Radio-Head (RRH)
The Remote Radio Head receives the digitized RF information through it’s RJ-45 connector from the LAN infrastructure and reconstructs the original analog information. This information is supplied to the antenna connector located in the module.

The RRH can be wall mounted either vertically or horizontally using a wall bracket and is powered using POE technology thereby removing the necessity of routing additional power points around the building

GigaBit Ethernet Switch
As part of our solution set, we supply a managed Level 2 GigaBit Ethernet switch which supports Power Over Ethernet.  The switch supports up to 12 electrical 1000/100/10 interfaces and 2 opticial GBit interfaces.

Configuration Software
Ircona provide a number of software options, each of which is optimised for a specific area of the market.  Initially, we provide three software products, one optimised for the small/medium enterprise, another optimised for the large enterprise and a third optimised for multi-tenant or campus environments
